ulamoottil Eye Hospital (MEH), one of the most advanced eye hospitals in Kerala has a family tradition in eye care, dating back to 1885. It began with the late Mulamoottil Mathen Mathai, who was a traditional eye physician. Years later, he became the inspiration for his grandson Ashley Thomas Jacob to become an ophthalmologist. As a continuation to this family tradition, he decided to set up the Mulamoottil Eye Hospital at Kozhencherry in the year 2003. Dr Ashley Thomas Jacob [MS (Ophth), DNB (Ophth), MRCOphth (London), FICO (Cambridge)] is the current Medical Director and Chief Surgeon of Mulamoottil Eye Hospital and leads a team of professionally qualified and highly experienced doctors who are supported by well-trained paramedical staff.

Using state-of-the-art facilities and latest in technology for eye care, Mulamoottil Eye Hospital is noted for the cataract surgery procedures viz. Micro Cataract Surgery and Customized Micro Cataract Surgery. We offer precise treatments for cataract, presbyopia, myopia (short sight), diabetic retinopathy etc. We cater to an average of 6000 patients every month. For outstation patients, we provide free air-conditioned and furnished guest houses.
