As usual, Tamil films have been sidelined when it comes to sending films to international film festivals.
Hindi films are always chosen and films from the south, especially in Tamil, always get step sisterly treatment. The situation continues in more or less the same vein.
The Cannes Film Festival in France is very prestigious. Among the films that were entered to be screened there, 2 were 'Veyil' and 'Paruthiveeran.' Now the selection committee has approved of only 'Veyil' to be screened at Cannes. The fate of the other films is not known.
This time, 4 Hindi films, a film each in Tamil, Marathi, Bengali and Malayalam are to be screened at Cannes.
Ameer's 'Ram' was screened at an international festival and won accolades as well as best award actor for the hero. It was expected that 'Paruthiveeran' would create a stir in international circles and those concerned with the film are amazed that there is no news about it whatsoever.
'Veyil' will be screened at Cannes on May 19. Director Vasanthabalan and producer Shankar will participate in the festival.
