A teenager who killed his seven-week-old daughter has been ordered to be detained for two-and-a-half years.Caitlyn Smith died in January after suffering severe head injuries, police said.
She was being treated for an infection in hospital in Ormskirk, west Lancashire, when her father Joshua Bacon, 17, shook her.
Bacon, of St Helens on Merseyside, was found guilty of manslaughter last month after a trial at Preston Crown Court.
He had been charged with murder but it was reduced to manslaughter part way through his trial.
Caitlyn was found unconscious in her cot by a nurse at Ormskirk and District General Hospital, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.
She was transferred to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, where she died.
'Beautiful angel'
In a statement after his conviction, Caitlyn's mother Danielle Smith said her ex-partner had ruined several lives.
She said: "He stole the life of my beautiful angel, Caitlyn, and ruined my life and that of my family.
"The sickening injuries he inflicted on my innocent, defenceless seven-week-old daughter on that day in that hospital room were horrific.
"I only had my daughter for a very short time but I will never forget her smile and the feeling of holding her in my arms."
Det Ch Insp Andy Murphy, of Lancashire police, said: "This was a particularly tragic case, involving as it did the death of an innocent seven-week-old baby girl and today's sentence reflects that there are no winners in this case.
"Even though Joshua has today been sent to prison for his daughter's manslaughter, that will be of little consolation to Caitlyn's family who still mourn their loss.
"Joshua has never accepted responsibility and has never explained his actions. Only he knows what really happened."This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
