DR Congo rebels free aid workers

Eight international Red Cross workers held hostage in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo last week have been freed unharmed, the organisation says.ICRC spokesman Inah Kaloga told the Reuters news agency that they had been released unconditionally by the Mai-Mai militia group in South Kivu province.

The seven Congolese and one Swiss were kidnapped last Friday as they returned from a trip to help displaced people.

A Mai-Mai leader has said their seizure "arose from a misunderstanding".
