    England face marathon cup journey

The England and Wales Cricket Board will wait until Wednesday before considering contingency plans for travel to the ICC World Twenty20.The volcanic ash drifting from Iceland has grounded UK flights, and the ECB is crossing its fingers the team can fly to the West Indies on Sunday.

Spokesman James Avery told BBC Sport: "We will be keeping a close eye on what happens with current flight schedules."

England's first match in the global tournament is on 3 May in Guyana.

Assuming they can stick to their original plans, the players would arrive in Barbados late on Sunday night, ready to play a warm-up in Bangladesh the following Wednesday.

But should flights out of the UK not resume in the next few days, the ECB has said it will be forced to consider alternative means of getting to the West Indies.

"Obviously in terms of the current situation with flights from the UK it's a frustration," said Avery.

"But it's too early to be going down the path of contingency plans. If the situation as it is remains in place in 48 hours then we will seek contingency plans."

Meanwhile, three squad players are currently involved in the final stages of the Indian Premier League.

Of them, Paul Collingwood, the captain, played his last match for the Delhi Daredevils on Sunday and is currently assessing how to get back to London in time for the flight out to the Caribbean.

But Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan, who are with the Bangalore Royal Challengers, play in the final knockout stages of the IPL which concludes this weekend.

They will then make their way to the West Indies directly from India. This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
