Fire crews from across north Wales are tackling a large woodland and gorse fire near Llanrwst, Gwynedd.Five houses have been evacuated and a further six are affected by smoke.
More than 55 fire fighters from as far afield as Bangor, Colwyn Bay and Rhyl are trying to bring the fire under control.
The North Wales Police helicopter is monitoring the extent of the fire from the air and a minor road from the A470 to Capel Garmon has been closed.
The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called out to an area near Capel Garmon around 1330 BST following a report of a lot of smoke.
A spokesperson said about 10 acres of predominantly private forestry were affected.
Nine fire engines are at the scene as well as two off road vehicles, the incident command unit from Rhyl and the environmental protection unit from Wrexham.
The spokesperson said: "It is too early to say what the cause of the fire is at the moment.
"Following the recent spell of dry weather there have been a number of grass fires across Wales - many of which have occurred in areas where access is extremely difficult, tying up resources for long period of time."
