The tradition of painting trucks in Pakistan is long and colourful. It started out as a way for truck drivers to take reminders of home with them while on long journeys. (Words and pictures: Shelley Thakral)
Over the years drivers have painted everything from wood, metal, jangling chains, shiny objects and even 3-D creations.
The idea is simple - make it pretty and make it stand out. These owners carefully chose a selection of mountain scenes, peacocksand tigers to customise their vehicles.
Most trucks take a week to paint and many are used to carry anything from timber to food across the country.
The trucks are colourfully decorated with different objects and sometimes supernatural characters like flying horses and colourful fairies.
Many of the painters have had their skills passed on from their fathers and grandfathers. They know the designs by heart and mostly paint freestyle.
