Detectives are trying to find out why a 61-year-old man was apparently shot in the eye while gardening in Manchester.Peter Hesford was admitted to hospital with a serious eye injury last month after collapsing outside his home on Grindley Avenue, Chorlton.
A CT scan revealed an object lodged in his brain, which ballistics experts said appeared to be a bullet.
Mr Hesford remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital as police try to find out what happened to him.
Greater Manchester Police have released an image of his CT scan as part of an appeal about the incident on 19 April.

Officers were alerted by staff at Wythenshawe Hospital when he was admitted with the eye injury.
Mr Hesford, who lives on the street near Southern Cemetery with his wife, Marie, had collapsed while gardening and could not remember what had happened to him.
Ballistics experts examined an early X-ray and concluded that an object had entered his head through his eye, police said. A CT scan has now revealed that it does appear to be a bullet.
Det Ch Insp Steve Eckersley, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This man has obviously suffered a really serious injury, and we've made many inquiries, but we have not yet found out how he was hurt.
"I'm asking for anyone who might know anything about this incident to come forward.
"Cast your mind back to that Monday afternoon - did you see or hear anything unusual in that area? Do you know what happened? If you do, you must call us.
"What did happen has certainly left the victim and his family feeling understandably upset and concerned and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it."
