A British man has been arrested in Crete on suspicion of beating his 21-year-old girlfriend to death.Chelsea Hyndman, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, died on Monday after being admitted to hospital in Heraklion.
Greek police said she suffered ruptured internal organs, "evidently caused by the use of physical violence".
Luke Walker, 22, was arrested on Sunday. The Foreign Office said both the man and woman's family were being provided with consular assistance.
Emergency surgery
Ms Hyndman was admitted to hospital on Sunday with severe abdominal pain but was later transferred to the Venizelio hospital where she underwent an emergency operation but died in intensive care.
A Greek police spokeswoman in Athens said the couple were living together in rented rooms in the coastal holiday resort of Malia.
Lawyer George Koundourakis said Mr Walker would appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.
The hearing at the court in Heraklion will establish whether he is to face charges and whether he will be allowed bail.
