    Surviving sextuplets 'doing well'

The parents of sextuplets born at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford are maintaining their hospital vigil over their five surviving babies.Vicky Lamb, 31, of Oxford, gave birth to six babies on 14 May - 14 weeks early - after fertility treatment.

The babies - four girls and two boys - ranged in weight from 1lb 5oz (0.6kg) to 1lb 15oz (0.9kg).

One boy, thought to be the smallest baby, died on Friday. His brother and sisters remain in a critical condition.

    Given names

Publicist Max Clifford, who has has been speaking on behalf of Mrs Lamb and her husband Andy, 31, since the birth, said the couple were praying their other babies would survive.

They have all been given names, but the parents have asked for them to be kept private.

Mrs Lamb became pregnant after taking Clomid, the same fertility drug she used before the birth of Gracie, her first child, who is now aged five.

The couple have thanked staff at the hospital for their efforts in looking after the sextuplets, who are receiving round-the-clock intensive care and specialist nursing.

Live births of sextuplets are rare, occurring approximately once in every 4.5 million pregnancies.

The most recent surviving set of sextuplets in the UK were born in Belfast a year ago. This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
