Nine die in disputed Turkish bomb

A blast has killed eight people in a minibus in an area of south-east Turkey where Kurdish rebels have been active, security officials say.

It was not immediately clear if the explosion had occurred inside the vehicle or whether the minibus had run over a landmine.

The blast happened near the city of Hakkari, bordering Iran and Iraq.

Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants have officially been on ceasefire since last month.

The civilian minibus was passing through the village of Gecitli and the passengers are believed to have been villagers.

Three people were also injured in the blast, an anonymous security source told AFP news agency.

Initial accounts had put the number of dead between nine and 12, while a later report by Reuters revised the figure down to eight, quoting the mayor of the nearby town of Durankaya, Resul Kaya.
