Police are treating an incident in which a man was knocked down by a car in Aberdeen as attempted murder.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the collision at 0250 GMT on Ann Street.

A Grampian Police spokesperson said: "This appears to have been a deliberate act and is being treated as an attempted murder."

The force appealed for anyone who saw a small white car being driven suspiciously to contact them.

One-way Ann Street, off Hutcheon Street, was expected to remain closed for several hours to allow a collision investigation to be carried out.

The car involved in the incident has been traced.
