Collins set to resign Labour post

Ray Collins, the general secretary of the Labour Party, is to announce his intention to step down from the post.

He will become a working Labour peer but will remain in his post until a replacement is found.

A former union official, Mr Collins became general secretary in 2008 after the resignation of predecessor Peter Watt amid a row over party funding.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has said the party needs to rebuild its organisation after its election defeat.
