Further snow and ice brings disruption to roads across Scotland and closes schools in some areas for a third day.
The M8 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh is down to one lane in each direction with snow still falling and the Forth Road Bridge has been closed.
Edinburgh airport is closed until at least lunchtime. Flights from other airports have also been disrupted.
At least six Scottish councils will have blanket school closures as wintry weather continues to grip the country.
Thousands of pupils will miss classes for a third day as forecasters predict snow showers, mainly around Edinburgh, East Lothian and the Borders.
On the roads, the A90 is blocked southbound coming out of Aberdeen, many roads in Grampian are hazardous and the he M77 from Kilmarnock through to the south side of Glasgow is down to one lane each way.
The Met Office has warned of heavy snow for Dundee, Angus and the north east.
Hundreds of skiers took to the slopes in the CairnGorm resort near Aviemore on Tuesday, and an avalanche warning has now been issued.
Experts have said the heavy snow build-up could be unstable on some slopes and have urged anyone venturing into the hills to check weather and avalanche forecasts before they set out.
Meanwhile, drivers are facing another struggle to work after overnight snow and showers.
Transport Scotland said about 1,800 vehicles and 3,500 staff are working round the clock to try to keep roads as free from snow and ice as possible.
Stewart Stevenson, Scotland's transport minister, said: "The Herculean efforts by all those involved in winter service up and down the country is to be highly commended.
"While this government and its partners are doing all they can, the public must play their part too by ensuring they keep up to date with all the available information and only making essential journeys if the current weather continues."
The councils with blanket school closures are Angus, Dundee, Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian, Clackmannanshire.
