A bomb has exploded outside a military base used by foreign forces in eastern Afghanistan killing two people, officials say.
Reports varied as to whether the dead were civilians or Afghan soldiers. At least four Afghan soldiers were said to have been wounded.
The bomb struck a market outside the base in the city of Gardez, Paktia province, local officials said.
Most of the foreign troops in Gardez are American.
The Taliban has said one of its suicide bombers carried out the attack.
Paktia's deputy police chief, Gulam Dastagir Rostumyar, said two Afghan soldiers had been killed and four wounded.
But Rohullah Samon, a spokesman for the provincial government, said two shopkeepers were killed. He said at least 18 people had been wounded, including three foreign soldiers.
The Nato-led force in Afghanistan has confirmed the attack but has not provided any details.
