    Passengers injured in coach crash

24 December 2010 Last updated at 12:32 ET Nearly 50 people have been injured, five seriously, when a coach overturned near Norwich airport.

Emergency services were called to the A140 Cromer Road at Horsham St Faith, on the outskirts of Norwich, after the crash happened at about 1540 GMT.

Police, the fire service and at least seven ambulance crews are at the scene.

Norfolk Police said those on board the single-decker coach, which crashed close to Hart's Hill Farm, were mainly elderly.

The force described it as a major incident.

Trapped inside Forty-eight passengers and a driver were on the coach, which police said was the only vehicle involved in the accident.

The East of England Ambulance Service said 44 people had suffered minor injuries and five were seriously hurt.

Some passengers were trapped in the coach after the crash but police said all had now been freed by firefighters.

Casualties are being taken to the Norfolk and Norwich hospital for treatment.

Those who do not need hospital treatment are being taken to Horsham St Faith community centre, which is being used as a makeshift shelter.

A coach and minibus are being used to transport the uninjured away from the area, which has been cordoned off by police.

BBC reporter Cath Saunt at the scene said: "I've seen four of five fire crews and at least seven ambulances going through to the scene of the crash, and they were still coming about an hour after the incident.

"A couple of ambulances left the scene with blue flashing lights and people who do not need immediate treatment have been taken to a community centre."
