Kings XI Punjab's comfortable win over table toppers Mumbai Indians in their last game doesn't seem to have bothered Delhi Daredevils. On eve of their game against the bottom-placed team at Ferozeshah Kotla on Sunday, Delhi took it easy as most of their key players skipped the optional training session.
Ashish Nehra was the only player seen sweating out at the nets, giving an indication that he might finally play his first game of IPL III. In case he makes it to the XI, it might solve Delhi's problem in the pace department. The other area of concern for the home team has been their No.6 and No.7 batsman. Kedar Jadhav's inconsistency might see old hand Mithun Manhas replacing him, while allrounder Rajat Bhatia should retain his place on the strength of his bowling.
Kings XI will be determined to replicate the form they showed during their resounding win over Mumbai. With opener Mahela Jayawardene in great touch, skipper Kumar Sangakkara among runs and Yuvraj Singh slowly regaining his rhythm; another upset win for Punjab cannot be ruled out.
But as it has happened in past games at Kotla, the toss will be vital. Captains haven't given much thought before electing to bat after they have called the coin correctly. Chasing even a modest target on the slow and low Kotla track can prove tricky.
Regardless of the result of the game, an interesting individual face-off is on the cards on Sunday. Punjab leggie Piyush Chawla was preferred over the in-form Amit Mishra for the T20 World Championship in West Indies. Mishra will have a point to prove but Chawla's three wickets in the last game mean it will be interesting duel of the leggies.
