With temperature breaking new records, it was not possible to keep concentrations intact for a long time. But Tejas Nagpal and Arunima Goyal did not let anything distract them as they both emerged winners in the Under-13 boys' and girl's category respectively, in the Chandigarh Under-7 and Under-13 Boys and Girls Chess Championship that concluded at St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, on Sunday.
Tejas Nagpal of St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, finished with 3.5/4 points, while Arunima Goyal of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26 took 3/3 points to claim the title.
Meanwhile, in the Under-7 category, Anhat Singh of SFW School , Sector 26 and Anika Nagpal of Carmel Convent, Sector 9, bagged first positions in their respective categories.
After the championship, Tejas Nagpal and Anubhav Tuknayat, and Arunima Goyal and Tanya Kaushal in the Under-13 categories have been chosen to represent Chandigarh in the Under-13 Boys and Girls Nationals to be held in Pondicherry from June 26 to July 5.
In Under-7 category, Anhat Singh and Aayush Raj Kapoor in the boys' category, and Anika Nagpal in the girls' category, have been selected to represent Chandigarh in the Nationals to be held at Jamshedpur from November 21 to December 1.
