Kolkata, Apr 26 (PTI) Having crashed to five successive defeats, East Bengal will look to end their AFC Cup campaign on a winning note when they take on Lebanese outfit Al Nejmeh in their last Group D match here tomorrow. Out of reckoning now, the Federation Cup champions had a miserable campaign so far and are yet to open their account.
Placed third on the standings with seven points, Al Nejmeh have an outside chance to make it to the pre-quarterfinals. Second-placed Al Ittihad of Syria have bright chances with a goal difference of five compared to Al Nejmeh''s zero.
The Syrian outfit will just need a draw to sail into the next round as they take on leaders Al Qadsia of Kuwait in their return-leg encounter tomorrow. In their first-leg match, the Lebanese club had beaten East Bengal 3-0 and they will look for a similar performance tomorrow.
However, the team did not have a happy memory of their last match, losing to Al Qadsia 1-3 that gave the Kuwait outfit the passage into the last 16. East Bengal coach Philippe de Ridder had said earlier he was using this tournament as a learning ground for the youngsters.
A good performance will certainly boost the morale of the side in the I-League as they are languishing at the 12th spot out of 14 teams. .
