Krishan, Thapa make finals
Shiva Thapa (54kg) and Vikas Krishan (60kg) reached the final of their respective weight categories at the World Youth Boxing Championships in Azerbaijan. Krishan beat Germany's Thomas Vahrenholt 8-0, while Thapa beat Alexandru Marin of Romania 11-3.
Houghton to get new contract
The All India Football Federation is set to renew national coach Bob Houghton's contract beyond the Asian Cup in January next year after the Englishman threatened to resign. Houghton had asked for his contract to be renewed till 2013, besides a salary hike of $10,000 per month.
Churchill win to go third
Felix Chimaokwu's double strike helped Churchill Brothers score a 3-1 victory over Salgaocar and move into the third spot in the I-League. Churchill scored through Felix (28th, 55th) and Odafe Okolie (52nd).
Pallikal, Ghosal into quarters
Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal moved into the semi-finals at the Asian Squash Championship in Chennai. Pallikal took just 32 minutes to beat Misaki Kobayashi of Japan 12-10 11-8 11-6, while Ghosal defeated Farhan Mehboob 11-7 11-1 11-6.
Bindra misses out on gold
Abhinav Bindra missed out on gold after the computer system crashed at the European Cup International Championship in Hanover, Germany. Bindra was leading by four shots in the final round when match was ended prematurely. Bindra was awarded silver on the basis of the qualifying round scores.
Henin wins 1st title after return
Justine Henin won her first title since her comeback when she beat Australia's Samantha Stosur in the final at the Stuttgart indoor tournament on Sunday. Henin, runner-up at Brisbane and the Australian Open in January, won 6-4 2-6 6-1, three weeks before the start of Roland Garros.
