    Azhar for BAI elections

    Former India skipper and Congress MP Mohammad Azharuddin has thrown his hat into the ring for the post of the president of the Badminton Association of India (BAI). Azharuddin, said he conveyed his intention of contesting BAI election to the Union sports minister M S Gill. Azharuddin claimed Gill was supportive but stopped short of saying he had the blessing of the minister. Azharuddin threw his weight behind the sports ministry's fiat of limiting the tenure of National Sports Federations' office-bearers. The ministry has capped the maximum term of a president to 12 years, with or without a break. BAI chief V K Verma would have completed 12 years as president when the elections are held in Chennai on June 13.

    Younis ban lifted

    Pakistan Cricket Board arbitrator Justice (retd) Irfan Qadir on Saturday lifted the indefinite ban on former captain Younis Khan. After a hearing, the retired justice said that there was no ground for the ban on Younis. "No player likes to be told he is a troublemaker or indisciplined. I am glad, the ban is now gone and my stand has been vindicated. I have said all along that I am innocent," Younis said.

    Tamim ton in vain

    Tamim Iqbal his second consecutive century but Bangladesh were all out for 216 in their first innings, trailing England by 203 runs to their score of 419 on Day 2 of the second Test at Old Trafford.

    Air India win title

    Ajit Chandela hit a punishing 19-ball 44 and then took 3/16 as Air India beat Sahara India Pariwar by 54 runs to win the 57th Sheesh Mahal T20 tournament at the K D Singh Babu Stadium in Lucknow. Abhishek Jhunjhunwala of was declared Man of the Series.

    India lose in rugby

    Indian Ruggers squandered a golden opportunity to qualify for the Division-I championship for the first time as they went down to lowly-ranked Philippines 12-34 in the final of theFive Nations tournament at the Delhi University grounds.
