Rajkot, Jun 7 (PTI) Rubbishing Adam Gilchrist''s claim that the Indian Premier League (IPL) was an "easy target" for match-fixers, IPL Vice Chairman Niranjan Shah today said that the third edition of the cash-awash Twenty20 League was played in a fair and transparent manner. "All the IPL matches were played under fair and transparent manner.
There was no evidence of match fixing and even the anti-corruption team of ICC has given a clean chit to IPL-III," Shah told reporters here. "Besides, BCCI and IPL officials are keen and committed to keep IPL matches clean and corruption free.
I don''t know why Gilchrist has given such a statement," he added. Talking to an English daily, the Deccan Chargers skipper had said IPL was an easy target for match-fixers as players are accessible during the event.
"It''s been discussed among players in the IPL - more wondering whether it goes on. There''s a strong thought that we''d be naive to think it''s not happening, because it''s a pretty easy target.
There''s a lot of accessibility to players and it''s early in its governance," Gilchrist had said.
