For most of the teams, playing in overcast conditions has meant that most of the overs in the day get washed out and whatever play is possible, wickets fall at regular intervals for the batting side.
But as the Jalandhar lower order batsmen walked to bat on Friday in overcast conditions, they had only one thing on mind- to extend the first innings total during their Under-19 Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy final. And Love Kumar and Bhupinder Singh made sure that the hosts did not lose any wicket during the 38 overs of play which was possible on Friday.
Batting with confidence, Love Kumar played shots all over the park after play resumed at 3.15 pm on Friday.
Continuing from where he had left on Thursday, Kumar was at his personal best during his stay at the crease as he smashed the opposition bowlers all over the park. Kumar blasted 32 boundaries and one towering six during his 390-ball knock of 225 runs.
He was ably supported by Bhupinder Singh who remained unbeaten on 124. Singh smashed 14 boundaries and one towering six during his entertaining knock. Love Kumar remained unbeaten on 225 runs as Jalandhar were 545 runs for the loss of six wickets in 160 overs at the end of day's play. Jalandhar now have an unassailable lead of 369 runs.
Earlier on Friday, Mandeep Singh Junior played a fine knock of 84 runs to set up a huge first innings' total for the hosts.
Resuming at the overnight score of 119 for 2, Jalandhar batsmen continued to torment Patiala bowlers throughout the day and never looked troubled by them.
Patiala fielding let down their bowlers as they dropped as many as four catches. After losing their overnight batsman Akash Rathore for 13 at 132, Jalandhar team got a bigger jolt as India U-19 star Mandeep Singh was sent packing for a duck.
It was Patiala's Amrinder Singh who gobbled up both the wickets.
