Andy Schleck in bad crash on Tour

Enlarge PhotoSaxo Bank rider Andy Schleck of Luxembourg cycles during the 8.9km prologue of the Tour... Luxembourg's Andy Schleck, runner-up to Alberto Contador last year, suffered a serious crash during the 213-km second stage of the Tour de France between Brussels and Spa on Monday.

Television images showed the Saxo Bank team leader standing on the side of the road holding his bleeding right arm. He then mounted a team mate's bike before cycling off after losing around four minutes on the leading riders.

The extent of the injury was not immediately known.

Schleck, 25 and one of the the favourites for victory in this year's race, crashed with several other riders in the slippery descent of the third-category Stockeu climb, 30 kms from the finish in Spa.
