Sameer Kathamale won the Every Sunday Open Blitz Chess Championship organised by the Sports Star Club Bibvewadi and held at the seminar hall of the VIT College of Engineering on Sunday.
The total number of players were 57 which included 14 rated players and the chief arbiter was Narendra Kulkarni. Sameer Kathamale earned himself 6 points and won a trophy and Rs 100 as prize money. Sunny Renju came in second with 5.5 points and earned himself Rs 500 and a trophy. Gaurav Konde came in third with 5.5 points, Kapil Lohana and Soham Datar shared fourth place with five points each.
In other competitions, Soham Mehta of St Mathews Academy won the best under 7 award while Ameya Munemane of DAV Public School won the best under 9 trophy. Pranav Jagtap of St Vincents won the best under 11 trophy while Siddhant Gaikwad won the best under 13 trophy.
Rutuja Desai of Vidya Niketan school won the best under 15 trophy and Rohan Joshi of Modern College won the best under 17 trophy. Akanksha Hagawane of DES School won the best lady player award while Prakash
Karmarkar won the best veterans player trophy.
