London, Jul 7 (ANI): Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso is convinced that his team will triumph by beating Germany in tonight's World Cup semi-final just like they did in the Euro 2008 final.
The clash in Durban is already being billed as the game of the tournament.
The Real Madrid midfielder said: "We have come so close to our ultimate objective and the dream we have keeps us focused."
"Our team is so well formed and David Villa has a lot of confidence. He is a threat for any defence and is without doubt a key player for us. We hope he's here until the final. His level of play is superb but then so is the team's," The Sun quoted Alonso, as saying.
But Alonso warned his teammates that they cannot afford to let Germany take the lead like they did against England and Argentina, as Spain might suffer a similar fate.
"Any small detail at any moment can be key to this result. We have to be solid, have a balance between attack and defence and, above all, not go behind. If they take the lead it can become very uncomfortable for us, like it was for England and Argentina," he said.
Fellow midfielder Andres Iniesta insisted Spain's win over Germany two years ago gave them the mental edge over the Germans.
"Winning Euro 2008 was a very important point for Spanish football. We've always had the objective of being champions, even though we didn't achieve it in the past. We had the luck to be together at this moment in history and it's a real privilege," he said. (ANI)
