Lucknow, Jul 9 (PTI) A day after entering Uttar Pradesh, the Queen''s Baton Relay for the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games today arrived in the state capital here. Flags of the participating nations were erected on both the sides of the road in front of the KD Singh Babu Stadium as the Baton, which is on a 100-day journey across the nation, was accompanied by Games'' mascot ''Shera''.
The Baton received warm welcome at the Bara Imambara, which has been decorated for the ceremony. Besides, there were cultural programmes and photo sessions at different corners of the city the Baton passed through -- Residency, Parivartan Chowk, Samta Mulak crossing and Dr Ambedkar Memorial, officials said.
Another cultural programme has been organised at a private school on the Kanpur road, where the Baton would stay during the night. Tomorrow the Baton would again proceed towards KD Singh Babu Stadium, where it will be given a warm welcome by the school children and athletes.
After the function, QBR will leave for Rae Bareli. The QBR, which was launched by Queen Elizabeth II in London last October in presence of Indian President Pratibha Patil, is scheduled to reach its final destination Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium - venue of CWG''s opening ceremony - in Delhi on October 3.
Meanwhile, Commonwealth Express - an exhibition-on-wheels to promote the Delhi Games - was opened for the public today. The special exhibition train, a joint venture between the Railway Ministry and the Information and Technology Ministry, has touched upon different aspects of the Games.
On the front portion of the coaches, there are figures of athletes participating in different disciplines and also the developments made in the field of Information Technology. PTI ABN DB.
