The Chandigarh Sports Department has decided to allot 378 sports wing seats in schools and 278 in Sports Coaching Centres this year.
Last year the Department allotted 593 sports wing seats in shools and sports coaching centres. The trials will be conducted from July 19 to 20. Trials for school wings will be conducted in the morning while for coaching centre, selection trials will be held in the evening.
The schedule of the trials has been circulated to all the schools/colleges and sports centres for information and necessary preparations.
According to M L Sharma, Sports Director, the purpose of the scheme is to generate techniques and prepare to achieve excellence of sports disciplines of the games among the trainees.
The players having secured first three positions at the State level, Inter School and State Open Championship(s) will be eligible for the enrolment in the sports wings in various disciplines. The sports wings at the schools will start on August 2 and will last up to January 31, whereas the sports wing at the sports coaching centres will start from August 2 and shall last up to February 28.
Nutritious diet will be provided to the sorts wings during the training programme everyday. For the smooth functioning and effective supervision of the sports wings, the coordinators and chief coordinator are being appointed by the department who will make periodical checking and submit the reports regarding progress of the sports wings.
