ECB warns cricketers not to throw ball close to batsmen

    Thu, Aug 12 05:00 PM

London, Aug 12 (ANI): England cricketers have been warned not to hurl the ball close to batsmen after pacer Stuart Broad was fined 50 per cent of his match fees during the third day's play in the second Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston on Sunday for hurling the ball at Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has emailed all 18 counties and the umpires in an attempt to curb the practice.

Broad was fined 3,000 pounds for hitting Haider with throw.

Broad and fellow bowlers were earlier accused of complacency after Pakistan's last four wickets added 195 runs, The Sun reports.

England fast bowling coach David Saker said: "When conditions are a bit tougher we must build pressure on the batsmen."

"There were definitely signs we were going through the motions. It showed a bit of complacency from the whole group. We need to work on that because, when we come up against Australia this winter, there will be times when the ball doesn't swing," he said. (ANI)
