Tapan Mohanta Kolkata, Aug 24 (PTI) Archer Tarundeep Rai says struggle while recovering from a career-threatening injury has made him tough and mature and that the upcoming Commonwealth Games at home will bring the best out of him. A shoulder injury forced him out of action for two years but the Services archer did not give up and made a stunning comeback by winning the senior national title and bagging gold medals at the South Asian Games in Bangladesh.
He capped his comeback in style yesterday when he topped the selection trials along with Jayanta Talukdar to earn a place in the Indian team for the Commonwealth and Asian Games. Terming his comeback a bigger achievement than his Athens Olympics qualification, the 26-year-old said his best is yet to come.
"Those few years when I had to grapple with the shoulder injury taught me everything in life and archery. Despite strong criticism, I never gave up and toiled hard.
Now I have matured as an archer and acquired more skill. I am satisfied that I am back where I belonged.
The best will come soon," Tarundeep told PTI here. Talking about his injury, Tarundeep said he was extremely dejected and even thought of changing his technique.
