Pardeep Singh Negi (4.5 points) (Chitkara Engineering College, Rajpura) and Simranjeet Kaur (4 points) (Saupin's School, Sector 32) bagged first and second position respectively, on the concluding day of the Under-25 Chandigarh chess championship 2010 held at St.Xavier's School Sector 44-C, Chandigarh. The duo also booked their berth in the team that will represent Chandigarh in the upcoming Nationals Under-25 Chess Championship to be held in Chandigarh in October.
Gaurav fashions Godrej & Boyce XI triumphA splendid half century by Gaurav Tandon (65 no) enabled Godrej & Boyce XI to defeat Dell XI in a league match organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula, today.Batting first, Godrej team got off to a fine start with the openers putting up a partnership of 54 runs. After fall of two wickets Gaurav Tandon partnered with Lakhan Shandil to take the innings forward. With Gaurab Tandon contributing unbeaten 65 runs, Godrej & Boyce XI piled up 167 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. In reply. Dell XI could muster only 131 runs in their 20 overs.In the second match of the day, Talwar XI led by a flamboyant half century by opener Shiva (59 off 29), defeated Kay Bee Warehousing Ltd. by seven wickets. In the third match of the day, Deep Engg XI beat HDFC Bank XI.
