Islamabad, Sep 14 (PTI) After initially turning down their visa requests, the Indian High Commission here has cleared the way for Pakistan''s participation in the Asian Central Zone Volleyball Championship in Kolkata starting Thursday. The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) secretary Muhammad Afzal today said that after initial reluctance, the Indian High Commission has finally granted visas to the contingent to take part in the eight-team event.
"They didn''t issue the visas initially although we asked for a reason why we had been refused visas," Afzal said. "But later today we were informed by the embassy officials that our team had got clearance to take part in the championship and they would be issuing visas for the team," he said.
Afzal said PVF was thankful to the Indian High Commission for reviewing its case quickly as the championship was a part of Pakistan team''s preparation for the Guangzhou Asian Games in November. "The team should now hopefully leave for Kolkata tomorrow as the championship starts from September 16," he said.
