New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) Allaying apprehensions expressed by a few countries, Government today promised to provide foolproof security for the Commonwealth Games "notwithstanding difficulties". Home Minister P Chidambaram, who visited three Games venues, said he was satisfied with the security arrangements but did not have such a feeling with regard to other aspects related to the sporting event which he refused to specify.
"I am satisfied with the security but not satisfied with what others had to do but have not done. It puts extra burden on security," he told reporters here, adding these are being sorted out.
"I can assure you that notwithstanding the difficulties, we will provide foolproof security at Games venues and Games Village," the Home Minister said. His remarks assume significance as a few countries, particularly Australia, have voiced apprehensions over the security and asked their citizens to exercise caution.
Asserting that adequate measures had been taken, Chidambaram said aerial aspect is the compliment of foolproof security. He said this when asked about IAF putting on alert fighters like Sukhois to prevent any aerial attacks during the Games that begin on Sunday and will end on October 14.
He said he did not foresee any hijack attempt but all preventive mechanisms have been put in place. Queried whether there was any "credible" intelligence about a terror strike, Chidambaram refused to categorise the inputs, merely saying that "every piece of information is taken seriously" by the government.
Asked whether he was satisfied after his visits to the Games venues, the Home Minister said, "I am never satisfied. Things can always be better.
