New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) The Indian women''s table tennis team plans to make a stiff challenge for the lone gold up for grabs at the paralympic tournament of the October 3 to 14 Commonwealth Games here. The troika of Bhavina Patel, Sonal Patel and Usha Rathore are optimistic about their chances in the event.
"We have a good chance of a gold medal," says coach Raj Aravindan. "Bhavina is the world Number 34 as per the last rankings and we have been practicing quite hard to win here.
" The job is not easy, since the team will have to through a challenging league format, followed by the semi-finals and the final. "The league for open singles may have anything between three to five players, depending on the draw," Aravindan says.
"There are five groups and as you can see, there is stiff competition since there is only one gold to fight for." Bhavina, however, is confident.
"We are in good shape and hope to make the most of our home advantage." India''s biggest challenge will come from Nigeria, England, Australia and South Africa.
The competition begins on October 10. Asked about the conditions and facilities at the Games Village, the team and coach expressed their satisfaction with the arrangements.
"We have been here since September 26 evening and all the facilities here are very good. The Organising Committee has met all our requirements," said Aravindan.
The team has practice sessions at the Jamia Millia Complex in the morning and the Yamuna Sports Complex in the evening.
