The positive results of both A and B samples came from a test after a match against Bolivia's Universidad de Sucre last month in the Copa Sudamericana, South America's equivalent of the Europa League.

"Colo Colo received a letter from the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) officially confirming the positive resulting the anti-doping test carried out on player Roberto Cereceda on Aug. 17," the Chilean club said on their website (www.colocolo.cl).

"The B sample tested in Brazil dated Oct. 4 confirmed the presence of cocaine in his urine."

Colo Colo said they had notified the Chilean Football Association. Club president Guillermo Mackenna said they were against the use of banned substances but would support the player in his defence.

Cereceda is in the Middle East with the national side, who have friendlies against United Arab Emirates on Saturday and Oman on Tuesday.
