Royals seek meeting with BCCI top brass

    Tue, Oct 19 04:44 AM

A week after being terminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajasthan Royals chairman Manoj Badale has written a letter to the board seeking a meeting to clear all doubts.

The BCCI had closed doors on two IPL teams, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, after consulting lawyers in the last governing council meeting. It is learnt that Badale has urged the BCCI to give a second chance to their franchise and also said that there were no ownership changes without BCCI's knowledge.

"We have not had the opportunity to answer these allegations as we were never in receipt of the show cause notice which would presumably have laid out exactly what these grievances were. RR have only been asked once by the BCCI to provide answers to the same set of questions that all franchises were sent in April. We complied fully with this request and have been fully transparent at all times in our dealing with all authorities," Royals CEO Shaun Morris told The Indian Express.

However, it is reliably learnt that BCCI will not change its stand and even the sought out meeting with BCCI looks tough. "They may have written a letter, but where does the question of revoking the decision come up?" BCCI president Shashank Manohar had been quoted as saying. "We have taken a final decision. That remains and no further decisions will be taken in this regard."

When Morris was asked whether links with former IPL chairman Lalit Modi was the prime reason for termination of the contract, he said, " It is not for us to speculate on the motives behind the action. Clearly, there have been inaccurate statements made to the media about RR ownership since April. All we have done is consistently make clear statements of fact about our ownership, and seek meetings with the BCCI and the IPL."

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan franchise claimed that they are yet to receive outstanding money amounting to 40 crores from the BCCI. In a statement issued by the side late on Monday night, the franchise said that the BCCI owed money under the franchise agreement from seasons 2 and 3.

"We have been advised that other franchises have been paid their dues for these periods and to date we have received no communication from BCCI or explanation as to what is the cause of the delay, despite our written requests for payment made over some time now," the statement said. BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, was unavailable for comment.
