New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) plans to discuss with the International Olympic Association the Delhi High Court''s ruling of restricting the tenure in office and fixing the upper age limit for heads of sports federations. According to IOA secretary, Randhir Singh, the association will review the court orders and will discuss the issue with its international counterpart.
Talking to the reporters here on the sidelines of a felicitation function organised by Samsung India ahead of the forthcoming Asian Games, Singh said that whatever information he had regarding the decision was based on media reports and added that the association will take the necessary steps only after it reads the copy of judgement. Interestingly, a division bench of the Delhi High Court yesterday directed the Centre to implement its National Sports Policy under which the upper age limit for the heads of sports federations has been fixed at 70 years.
Asked about the preparations for the Asian Games, Singh said, "We are expecting to better our previous performance and finish at least at fifth position." He added that India will be aiming to get a greater share of medals at the 15-day event.
It is important to note that India finished a distant 8th with 54 medals in the last Asian Games held at Doha, Qatar. In reply to a question, whether the flag bearing ceremony will have any effect on India''s ace shooter, Gagan Narang, as he is scheduled to perform the next morning, Sigh said, "He (Narang) has not informed us about any problem, however, if there is any issue it will be looked into.
" Asked who will be the next choice? He said if the need arises we will discuss upon the replacement. Narang, who won four gold medals at last months Commonwealth Games, was earlier named Indias flag-bearer for the Guangzhou Games'' opening ceremony on November 12.
