    Mandeep ton takes Punjab into Vinoo Mankad Trophy final

    Led by skipper Mandeep Singh's unbeaten knock of 128 runs in 131 balls, Punjab beat Madhya Pradesh by a huge margin of 177 runs and entered the final of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for U-19 in a match played St Stephen's College in Delhi. Winning the toss MP skipper Aditya Srivastav elected to field. His move backfired as Punjab U-19 piled up a daunting total of 270 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs. Punjab opener Manan Vohra played strokeful innings of 54 runs. After Manan's loss, Mandeep Singh put on the acceleration button for Punjab and scored freely all over the ground. He was involved in useful partnership of 63 runs with Love Kumar who scored 28, before being bowled by M.S Jain with teams total reading 226 for 5 in 46.5 overs.

    Punjab stalwart Mandeep added 44 runs in the last 3.5 overs taking the total to 270 for 6 in 50 overs. He remained unbeaten on 128, while his knock included 17 fours and one six. For MP, bowling honours were shared by Ayaan Khan (1 for 44) and A.R Shrivastav (1 for 43). Batting second, MPCA were bundled out for 93 in 26.4 overs. Medium-pacers Sandeep Sharma and Kamal captured first four MP wickets within five overs of the innings.

    In the 19th over, MP were tottering at 67 for 5. There after left-arm spinners Gurinder Singh (3 for 20) and Vinay Choudhary (3 for 23) also got into the act. MPCA team were skittled out for 93 in 26.4 overs. Punjab will take on Delhi in the final to be played at Delhi on November 15.

    Punjab bows out from C.K Nayadu Trophy

    Rain thwarted Punjab U-22 team's chances of reaching the knock out stage in the Col.C.K Nayadu Trophy. Playing in their last league match against Tamil Nadu at Chennai, Punjab failed to take the vital first innings lead required to reach the knock out stage. Punjab failed to realise it by two runs because of loss of 67 overs play on the fourth day. Punjab restricted Tamil Nadu at 320 in 171.4 overs. Tamil Nadu innings was bolstered by T.T Baik's 119 n.o , U. Sushil's 67 and K.M Gandhi's 39. For Punjab off-spinner Gunjot Singh (4 for 95) and left-arm spinner Yogesh Kumar (3 for 74) were the main wicket takers. Starting the run chase, Punjab posted 185 for no loss in 64 overs on day three with opener Kunwar Raina (87) and Jeewanjot (86) doing well with the bat. Punjab lost the plot after losing their first wicket at 206 when Raina got out for 91.Jeewanjot was next to go after scoring 103. Punjab lost their eight wickets for 114 runs. Verma scalped six wickets for Tamil Nadu.
