Injured Riaz ruled out ongoing Test series against SA

    Sat, Nov 13 10:17 PM

Karachi, Nov 13 (PTI) After senior batsman Muhammad Yousuf, Pakistan today lost the services of Wahab Riaz for the ongoing Test series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates after the left-arm pacer was ruled out due to an injury. Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam confirmed that Riaz would be taking no further part in the two-match series.

"He complained of a side strain this morning and we went him for a MRI scan. The reports show he has a genuine problem and has been advised one month''s rest," Alam said from Dubai.

"Riaz will take no further part in the first Test and is also ruled out of the second Test," he added. Riaz, who made his Test debut in England this year, bowled 18 overs and took two wickets on the opening day of the first Test yesterday in Dubai and was Pakistan''s most impressive bowler.

Riaz''s loss will come as a big blow to Pakistan team as they have already lost the services of Yousuf, who was ruled out of the series with a groin injury. Yousuf and Riaz are expected to return home this week.

Alam said the team would seek no replacement as they had two other pacers in the team in the form of Mohammad Sami and Tanvir Ahmed.
