Bremen's Almeida, Stuttgart's Marica given bans

Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almeida and VfB Stuttgart forward Ciprian Marica have been banned for three games after being sent off in league matches last weekend, the German federation said on Monday.

Portuguese Almeida scored a hat-trick in Werder's 3-0 win over St Pauli on Sunday but was sent off with a straight red card 10 minutes from time for lashing out at Carlos Zambrano after battling for possession.

Romanian Marica, fined 50,000 euros by his club on Monday for his dismissal, was sent off following a second yellow card in the 16th minute of Stuttgart's 4-2 loss against Hamburg SV after insulting the referee.

He had been given a yellow card seconds earlier but kept protesting.

With three games remaining until the winter break, both will be eligible to play again in January.
