CHENNAI (Reuters) - Stanislas Wawrinka upstaged top seed Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-1 on Saturday to sail into the Chennai Open final against Belgian Xavier Malisse.
Having prevailed in a tough opening set, the third seeded Swiss drove home the advantage in the second -- dropping just one game -- to win the match against Berdych in 76 minutes.
In the other semi-final, seventh seed Xavier Malisse rallied to beat Janko Tipsarevic 3-6 6-3 6-2 and make his second final in the tournament he won in 2007.
Jolted by the opening set deficit, Malisse claimed the second to force the decider where he broke his Serbian opponent twice to clinch the contest.
"Tipsarevic was serving two aces per game. I thought I had nowhere to go. I think I started playing more aggressive in the second set," Malisse told reporters.
"It's tough to think that I'm into the finals but I have trained hard. I have come determined to win."
