Mohammad Siddikur Rahman, the 26-year old golfer from Bangladesh, took a step towards winning his first Asian Tour title on Indian soil after his excellent play placed him among the three leaders at the halfway stage of the $300,000 SAIL Open at the Delhi Golf Club here.
Like Siddikur, Japan's Akinori Tani and Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat also produced cards of five-under 67 to lead by one stroke with a tally of nine-under 135.
In fact, Siddikur could have emerged as the only leader had he not bogeyed the final hole after firing in three birdies on either side of the turn.
On a day when the cut was applied at two-over 146 and the field reduced to 69 for the next two rounds, Ajeetesh Sandhu and Gaganjeet Bhullar kept the home challenge alive by staying just a stroke behind the leaders.
Overnight leader Anirban Lahiri was a further shot away after a modest 71.
Sandhu, who had an eagle on the 15th hole from 70 yards, was obviously pleased with his card of five under.
In all, 30 Indians, including Jyoti Randhawa (70, 72), made it to the money list by surviving the cut. .
