India has appointed former England coach Duncan Fletcher as the new coach of the national team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India said Wednesday that Fletcher will be given a two-year contract as replacement for South African Gary Kirsten, whose contract ended with India's World Cup victory.
Bowling coach Eric Simmons will continue in his job.
Fletcher, a former Zimbabwe captain, was the coach of the England team that beat Australia in 2005 to take the Ashes for the first time in close to two decades.
The first assignment for Fletcher will be an upcoming tour of the West Indies.
