Yoshiaki Ota scored the lone goal Friday as Vegalta Sendai defeated Urawa Reds 1-0 in the J-League team's first home game since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan.
Ota headed in Ryang Yong Gi's cross in the 40th minute as Sendai improved to two wins and a draw from their first three matches this season.
Sendai was forced to train away from home since the team's stadium was damaged in the earthquake and tsunami that devastated much of Japan's northeastern region.
Elsewhere, Yuya Osako and Daiki Iwamasa scored second-half goals as Kashima Antlers defeated Avispa Fukuoka 2-1 for its first win of the season. Kosuke Nakamachi scored the lone goal for Fukuoka.
