Indian archers had a mixed day with the ladies outshining the men in the recurve section of the World Cup Stage I at Porec on Tuesday. Led by Cadet World, CWG and National champion, Deepika Kumari, the Indian ladies team stood overall second behind World champion Korea in the team qualification while the men finished fifth.
In the individual rankings, Deepika (1328) was fifth overall and earned a bye into the last 16 along with others in top eight rank. As per the new rule, the first eight position holders in individual ranking will be seeded in the round of 16.
The Koreans dominated one of the strongest fields in recent times.
The eight-member Indian recurve team tried its best to consolidate its position. Korea's Oh Jin Hyek (1359) and Im Dong-Hyun (1352) were the top two. World record holder in the FITA round, Kim Woojin of Korea finished fifth (1345). The best Indian was CWG gold medallist Rahul Banerjee (1334) placed at ninth. Tarundeep Rai (1325) was 16th, Jayanta Talukdar (1321) was 19th and Viswash (1301) was 29th. The Indian team, comprising Banerjee, Rai and Talukdar, finished fifth (3980) behind Korea, France, USA and Italy.
Korean newcomer Jung Dasomi led a Korean sweep of the top three positions.
She totalled 1374 points. Deepika Kumari (1328) was fifth, Seema Verma, who represented India in the youth Olympics in Singapore, was 10th (1319). Olympian Laishram Bombayla Devi (1314) was 11th and Rimil Buruily (1278) shot much below her standard to end 51st. Deepika, Seema and Bombayla enabled India end second behind Korea with 3961 points.
In the mixed team event, the Indian pair of Banerjee and Deepika Kumari totalled 2662 to be fourth behind Korea, Great Britain and Italy.
