    Live: India, in real time

India is a country on the go; at any given moment in time, there is much happening in the fields of politics and governance, of finance, of development; there is constant churning in society, considerable activity in sports and in the arts... It's almost too much to keep track of. And hence, this effort: a real-time, constantly updated look at the events that matter. Refresh this page for live updates.<span class="yui-editorial-embed"/>
Change in Bengal, close fight in Kerala, Tamil Nadu: Exit polls
Election surveys by three television channels give a unanimous clean sweep for Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, predicting the end of the Communist rule, while they were divided on the outcome in Tamil Nadu, Assam and Kerala. Polls conducted during the polling in the states over the past month gave a two-thirds majority to the Trinamool Congress-Congress combine in the 294-seat West Bengal assembly. In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is set to oust the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), three election surveys said Tuesday. The Congress-backed Jai Hind TV channel and a private agency predicted that the UDF will win 86-96 seats in the house of 140 and will get a vote share of 48.60 percent.

Tamil Nadu, two channels predicted, would be a close call. Headlines-ORG said the DMK-led alliance would bag between 115 and 130 seats in the 234-seat assembly, while the opposition AIADMK-led alliance may get between 105 and 120 seats, which would mean the DMK will return to power.

In Assam, as CNN-IBN-The Week post-poll survey shows, the ruling Congress has nothing to worry as the Tarun Gogoi-led government is set to perform an impressive hat-trick on May 13 by winning anything between 64 and 72 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly.

    5:30 pm:
So by now we most of us know that a South African cheerleader, Gabriella Pasqualotto, has been fired from her Indian Premier League gig after writing a behind-the-scenes blog about cricketers misbehaving at post-match parties. So what did she write that caused such a furore? Excerpts from her blog:

Usually only after day matches there is an exclusive after party and at night is when it all happens. The music pumps, the drinks flow and the cricketers come and go. We mingle and associate with important people of the IPL wearing their finest and sexiest, sponsors of all sorts, media and fashion shows, even Indian MTV! But the real fun happens in the VIP rooms where the players and night owls can cause scandal!

The few Indian players we have met, such as MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have been very polite and keep to themselves in the dark corners. Hotshots like Tendulkar with families at home are never present. The likes of Jonty Rhodes and Albie Morkel are notorious for having a good time with friends!

‘Ol Graeme Smith will flirt with anything while his girlfriend lurks behind him. The Aussies are fun but naughty, such as Aiden Blizzard and Dan Christian. By the end of a crazy evening, a certain someone had played kissing catchers with three girls known to me only, although he has his own girlfriend back home. He cooed to each girl, “Come home with me, I just want to cuddle!’

Guess she said it a little too soon. Read the full post here
