Chargers bowlers dominate to end Warriors' IPL hopes

MUMBAI (Reuters) - The Deccan Chargers attack restricted Pune Warriors to 136 for nine, setting up a six-wicket victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday.

The Deccan side reached their target with four balls to spare, snuffing out Pune's slim chances of reaching the playoff stages in their debut season in the competition.

The bowlers vindicated captain Kumar Sangakkara's decision to field first and reduced Pune, led by India batsman Yuvraj Singh, to 45 for five in the eighth over.

Australian Mitchell Marsh hit three sixes and a four in a 28-ball 37 to boost the Warriors while seamer Daniel Christian and spinners Pragyan Ojha and Amit Mishra picked up two wickets apiece.

Openers Sunny Sohal (34) and Shikhar Dhawan (28) added 67 runs for the first wicket and useful contributions from Sangakkara (25) and JP Duminy (23) sealed victory for the Chargers.

Deccan notched up their fifth win while the Warriors slumped to their eighth loss in the tournament. Both teams are out of contention for the playoffs.
