Sepang (Malaysia), May 28 (PTI) The only Indian driver on the grid, Raj Bharath, braved the punishing heat to finish a creditable 12th in the third round of the inaugural J K Racing Asia Series at the Sepang International circuit here today.

Bangalore-boy Bharath successfully finished the race under hot and humid conditions to brighten his chances of finishing among the top-10 in the remaining three rounds of the championship.

The 16-year-old was one of 15 participants, who drove the Formula JK Tyre Pacific, a 1.2 litre BMW-powered single-seater racing car.

Bharath, after finishing 14th in the qualifying session for the third race, came up with a spirited display to clock 24:36:827.

The Indian driver received tough challenge from 13th placed Freddie Ang and Akash Nandy, who developed a technical problem in the 19th minute and was subsequently ruled out of the race.

"I wouldn''t say it was a bad race but still there is room for improvement. Finishing 12th after qualifying 14th, it just shows the level of competition. I will try to rectify my mistakes and try to secure a top-10 finish in the coming races," Bharath told PTI.

"The competition was very tough and I was just looking to maintain my lead. There were moments where I was trailing but I managed to finish 12th. There is another round to go and I am confident of doing well in that," he added. .
