    players, coaches to avoid disputes

    Lahore:
    Fed up of disputes over authority between the national team’s players and management, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to have special lectures for them to ensure there is no wrangling over responsibilities and powers. A PCB source said the board’s governing body has advised Chairman Ijaz Butt to take steps to ensure the captain, coach and manager were clear about their job profiles. “The governing body was not happy with the dispute that erupted between former captain, Shahid Afridi and coach, Waqar Younis on the West Indies tour over selection issues,” the source said.

    I won’t get complacent: Bolt

    PARIS :
    Usain Bolt says he keeps learning and won’t be complacent ahead of this year’s world championships in South Korea. The Jamaican sprinter says he’s trying “to learn from mistakes.”Bolt also says the injured Tyson Gay “was pushing himself a bit too much” last month at the U.S. Nationals. Despite Gay’s absence at the worlds, Bolt says he “won’t get complacent” and that compatriot Asafa Powell was still a threat.Bolt will face European champion Christophe Lemaitre of France in the 200 meters of the Areva meet on Friday.The worlds in Daegu, South Korea, run from Aug. 27-Sept. 4.

    Davenport not to play Team tennis

    NEWPORT BEACH:
    Lindsay Davenport is pregnant and will not play in the World TeamTennis Pro League this summer. Davenport was placed under travel and activity restrictions by her doctor. She was scheduled to play in her first match Tuesday night in Newport Beach, but will be replaced by teammate Maria Sanchez. “Lindsay is like family to us, so her family and health are what is most important,” Aces president Dani Apted-Schlottman said in a statement.

    Wozniacki advances to 2nd round BASTAD:

    Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the second round of the Swedish Open on Tuesday by defeating Alize Cornet of France 6-4, 6-4.The Dane will next face Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden, who beat Andrea Hlavackova 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in the clay-court WTA tournament. In other first-round action, second-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy defeated Australia’s Olivia Rogowska 6-2, 7-5, while sixth-seeded Iveta Benesova of Russia crashed out of the tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Spain’s Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.

    Ganguly in WB Sports Council

    Kolkata:
    The West Bengal government on Wednesday reconstituted the Sports Council by inducting former India captain Sourav Ganguly as one of its vice-chairmen. Ganguly will work alongside former footballers Gouranga Banerjee, Compton Dutta, international paddler Poulami Ghatak and GM Dibyendu Barua. “We are trying to bring everybody from all disciplines to revive the sports in Bengal,” sports minister Madan Mitra told reporters while announcing the reconstitution of the Sports Council.

    Manuel unlikely to be India’s coach

    New Delhi:
    The All India Football Federation is unlikely to appoint Spaniard Juan Manuel Lilo as the chief coach of the national team as the salary he demanded seemed to be “astronomical.” Reliable sources in the federation informed that the Spanish coach had “demanded an astronomical remuneration which simply will not be possible for AIFF to meet.” Agencies
