    London, July 21(ANI): Led by Kevin Pietersen, who scored his 18th Test hundred and fifth at Lord's, England were handsomely placed at 305 for the loss of five wickets at the tea break on the second day of the first Test against India on Friday.

    Pietersen was batting on 115 of 245 balls with 12 boundaries and was in the company of wicketkeeper batsman Matt Prior, who scored 21 of 36 deliveries. The two have added 35 runs for the sixth wicket. The session between lunch and tea saw England score 88 runs for the loss of the wickets of Ian Bell and Eoin Morgan.

    Praveen Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers, snaring the wickets of Bell (45 of 76 balls) and Morgan (duck of three balls), and taking his tally to three wickets for 85 runs. Twenty-six overs were bowled between lunch and tea. Overall, England have batted for 103 overs and there are still 45 overs to be bowled today.

    Both Bell and Morgan were caught behind.

    At lunch, England were 217 for the loss of three wickets in 77 overs after resuming at 127 for two. The lone wicket to fall was that of one-drop batsman Jonathan Trott for an individual score of 70 (of 140 balls). He was leg before wicket to Praveen Kumar.

    Pietersen was then batting on 71 (of 157 balls), while Ian Bell was on 28 (of 45 balls).

    India went into the field without Zaheer Khan, who is suffering from a hamstring injury. The official word is that the physios in the Indian dressing room are working on him and that he may bowl in the second innings if he recovers.

    On Thursday, bad light and rain stopped play. The decision to stop play was taken by umpires Assad Rauf and Billy Bowden.

    England were then 127 for the loss of two wickets, that of their openers-Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook.

    Both the wickets were snared by India"""s main strike bowler Zaheer Khan. Cook was the first to go-leg before wicket to Khan. Strauss was caught by Ishant Sharma of Khan of an attempted hook. A couple of chances were offered by Trott, one of the bowling of Harbhajan Singh and the other of Zaheer Khan.

    Indian captain M.S. Dhoni won the toss and elected to field against England.

    Fast bowler Praveen Kumar and batsman Suresh Raina were included in the starting XI, while experienced batsman Yuvraj Singh and fast bowler S. Sreesanth wereleft out.

    Opening batsman Abhinav Mukund got another chance to play in a Test before injured Virender Sehwag's return.

    The match is the 2,000th Test of all-time and the 100th between India and England.
